Spotlight: Matt Williams
Whats up man? Just for the public who are you, how old and where are you from?
My name is matt williams but everyone calls me matt808. I live all over the place 8 months out of the year I'm in Manhattan Beach, California.
I was born in hawaiI and lived there most of my life, but right now I reside in San Antonio, Texas
Damn you're all over, how about those Texas locals? I heard they're weird as fuck
Yeah man, I was so suprised when I moved here. You got your SP locals Zachpooie and Sir Sohan who fucking kill it. Then you have tampa am winner cody mac being a beastmaster and annihilating everything in his path. Everyone here is sick and I see how some can say they'll always rep Texas and most likely never leave. Prime example is Jake Nunn.
Well yeah true, so what about California?
Well, when I was 15 I was in hawaiI living on the north shore of oahu which is literally walking distance from the beach. The 7 mile coast it follows has 4 world class surf breaks. In Turn Vans Triple Crown series holds 3 seperate contests under 1 big event at those beach breaks.
I figured I 'd go film it and maybe try and get a freelance gig through some surf companies and luckily ran into who is now my boss, big man, owner, friend of the company I work for called WINDOWSEATpictures.
I told him my story and that I wanted to be involved in the action sports industry and so on. To make a long story short he hooked me up with an interview and they hired me as an intern. Then again I got very lucky and they flew me out to Manhattan beach California to work on the post production of the tv shows. In time I gained so much knowledge from them and still am learning today. I 'm so grateful for it too.
Haha, sorry Steve thats probably bit to long
Jesus, I didn't even have to ask any questions. You just did the interview for you
Haha
So where do you see yourself headed now?
I 'm only 17 so right now I see myself trying to have as much fun as possible. I'll be filming a bunch of skateboarding this month all around texas and then I'll be heading to california to work on the Vans Downtown Showdown through WINDOWSEATpictures again.
Then after that I plan on moving to Austin Texas and keep filming skateboarding
If it goes good for a year I 'll stay there. If it turns sour I 'll move to LA and go to school.
God damn, so as far as people coming up in the filming game you're already kind of making it........ Any advice for the upincomers?
Haha I don't know about me making it, but I do know some good advice that has helped me out with people and helped me out getting jobs. It sounds cliche and stupid but you really got to be yourself. I 've seen people come into interviews and show their resume and it's incredible but their attitude and personality sucks. Those people never get the job. If you are serious about filming and really want to make a name for yourself you have to push yourself into the game. Get your name out there with anything possible. Think outside the box and work your way in.
Seems logical, well before we wrap this up wanna give any shout outs?
Yeah, for sure. I'd like to thank my family immediatly because they've supported me through it all. WINDOWSEATpictures for giving me the oppertunity, everyone from Hawaii who let me film them, the TPC crew. Everyone in San Antonio that is cool with me and let me film. Sara, Emily, Zach, Sohan, Dolen, Chris, Jeff Gilmer, Brandon Boehm, and anyone else who I forgot sorry. Also I'd like to thank god for creating beer.
