Spotlight: Matt Hirst
Alright lets start this interview off with the mandatory info, ya know, Name, Age, Location, Mothers Maiden name, Sexual Orientation......
Matt Hirst. 23 years old. Sheffield, England. Sexual orientation could lead onto a WHOLE separate interview. I would put my Mothers maiden name but I've probably used it as a security question on a banking site or something! Can never be too careful.
Actually I wanted the maiden name so I could bust your paypal account, I sat there for hours trying to figure out the last 4 of your Social Security Number for the password hint then I remembered you're Euro. Do you guys have something like that?
We have National Insurance numbers, I guess that's our equivalent. Damn, all these internet security things freak me out, I'm actually gonna go check my PayPal now and see if that is my security question haha.
Fuck, we already lost track of a topic that we weren't even on.. And I probably disgusted 2/3's of our Euro audience.... great. Lets see if we can save this interview and talk about video taping skateboarders.... alright Matt, what setup chu workin with?
Such a standard setup it's shocking. VX1000, mk1, generic 50w light, tripod, white sheet of A4. Boring stuff. I'm not really shooting for myself anymore like I have in the past, all things now are either for companies or for the new shop that's just opened in our town's video, Story.
This sounds like a good opportunity to ask who you're filming for.
Just whatever upcoming videos are coming out really, things seem a lot different here in the UK, there's no money to be made unless it's to promote your company. I guess it's all just who you know, last year I was trying to film for Lost And Found but didn't end up getting that much in the final thing. Since then up until recently I was mainly filming Arthur Tubb for the Heroin Skateboards video which has just been finished. But since then and onwards it's all about the Story video. With Dan Magee co-owning it it helps a lot since he was one of my 'idols' starting out in skate filming. Pretty gnarly to be working alongside now. Other than that, just any random tours that I get asked to do.
It must be pretty cool to say that you're really getting up there in the ranks. So now what's up with that Et Cetera video? since I know you never sent me a copy, you shitface.
Again it goes back to the money deal. I don't see 'ranks' in the UK simply because there isn't anywhere to go! Even Magee doesn't make money from filming, it's only beneficial to him to promote Blueprint. But it's what I love doing so whatever comes to me is all bonus.
Et Cetera seems real old now! I guess it was finishing up around this time last year. I watched it the other day and thought how many things I'd do differently now and what I didn't like about it, I guess that's good, shows progression. But I was/am proud of the theme of it, how sections transition to each other, guess you'd need to see it to know what I'm on about. And I would of sent you a copy if you'd of sorted out the selling it on the site business! Haha nah it's cool, kind of too late now, but give me your address and I'll hook it up.
Oh sick, running this place has perks. Damn we've ran back and forth forever... lets wrap this up so I can go get some donuts. Have any last words for the kiddies or perhaps shoutouts? let it rip. oh yeah, thanks for putting up with this interview and helping out with the site since day one..
So you don't wanna go into my sexual preference?? Another time maybe. Could take awhile. Well obviously, filming wise, I gotta thank Dan Magee for liking what I do and giving me something to put my efforts into, rather than just yet another scene video. Everyone I skate with and film, no need to list names, they know who they are, else I'd be a very bored and boring person. Jussi Turunen for being the best skate filmer full stop, and the nicest guy you could know. My parents for simply being cool people and bringing me up. And finally Steve, Mike and SkatePerception, for a place to chill and something to do when there is nothing else.
Thanks a lot for reading all that, hope you like the spotlight. Damnit Steve you didn't ask me what it's all about! I'll give a quick rundown. Basically we have a competition here called 'Day In The City', where a filmer and a few skaters have a weekend in a city to film, then the week after to edit it. This particular one was in London and had a few random added tasks like skate 2 spots on a Monopoly board, interact with a policeman, cross a bridge etc. So anything you see that looks a bit odd will be because it was in the tasks and we had to! That's all you need to know, again, hope you like it and sorry for making you read all that.
P.S; If you are male, well built, and are available for chatting and probably more, you know where I am.
